If that doesn’t sell you, then the fun action of the game will. Try it out!

The game has two playing modes. One is two people sharing one device, taking turns controlling the tanks. This works better with an iPad rather than with a Mac. The other mode is two players on their on devices playing. Game Center is used to match you up with your opponent.

As an in-app purchase, you can buy Map Maker to make your own maps. These maps can be shared with other players that play you, even if they haven’t purchased Map Maker in-app product! Moreover, the other players can share your map too. Make a good map and everybody will be playing it!

Game play is like soccer (or football in places other than North America). You shoot the ball or drive over it to pick it up. You can pass the ball to your other tanks by shooting it at them. If you wear down the opponent’s tanks by shooting them, they will be sent back to their own end. You can also curve your shots to get past obstacles or blocking tanks. Shoot the ball into your opponent’s net to score a point. Play goes to 7 points but there are no ties. You have to win by two points.

How to Play

LaiOS Simulator Screen shot May 26, 2014, 15.05.59unching the app will give you the startup scene.

As this is a two player game, playing two players on one device is better on an iPad. Playing that way on a computer can get a bit crazy fighting over the one mouse.

To start a game on an iPad, pick the colour of your tanks, select your map, and then tap on “Start Game!”

When you first download Paper Skirmishers, you have one default map, “Standard.” There are two ways to get more maps. One is to purchase the In-App Map Maker product and make your own maps. The other is to play with other people on Game Center. If the person you are playing with has a custom map, you will have a chance to download it for your own use.

When piOS Simulator Screen shot May 26, 2014, 15.21.19laying on the one device, each player takes turns moving the tanks. To move a tank, just tap and slide your finger or mouse along the path you want it to take. The tank will follow the path you lay out until it bumps into something solid.

The object of the game is just like soccer – get the ball into the other player’s net. Your tank can pick up the ball by either driving into it or shooting it. When a tank’s bullet hits the ball, the ball will be carried by that tank. Scoring is just shooting the ball into the net.

Tanks can shoot other tanks. If your tank gets shot it will take a bit of damage. If it is carrying the ball, it will drop the ball. If your tank gets too damaged, it will return to its starting position.

YouriOS Simulator Screen shot May 26, 2014, 15.37.20 tank needs to charge up before it can shoot. If your tank is close to your goal, it doesn’t need to charge up to shoot the ball. Use this feature to pass the ball up to a forward tank!

When you shoot, you can give your shot a curve. This is handy to get around obstacles!

Playing on Game Center

Play on Game Center is like playing on one device… except with a huge difference – you don’t have to take turns on the same device.
